There's always a big push, at the start of any decent road trip. It's the need to get a heap of miles in the rear-view mirror and make it to the first stop on the itinerary. Today was our big driving day, nearly 10 hours on the road with only a handful of stops for potty breaks and a random petting zoo at a roadside convenience store/rest stop.
So. Much. Driving. - Road trips are exhaustingGluten-free at Sizzler, it seemed like a good idea at the time
By the time we made it to our destination in Cedar City, Utah and met up with my parents, we were all exhausted and starving. Exhausted and starving = no energy to research decent gluten-free options. Shawn saw a sign for Sizzler, Googled their gluten-free menu items and we decided that would fit the bill for the night.
If you've never been to a Sizzler, it's basically steak, chicken, or shrimp with a starch side of choice and salad bar. I ordered the 6 oz. steak with a baked potato (all listed as gluten-free online) and a salad from the salad bar. The most notable thing about the entire dining experience was that there wasn't much of anything notable except the fact that the salad bar was completely ransacked, pasta from the macaroni salad was floating in the Italian dressing, veggies were scattered everywhere and the whole salad bar just looked messy and unappealing. On the plus side they did offer gluten-free cookies on request which I requested. They brought out four and they were quite tasty. It wasn't a horrible meal but it also wasn't a dining experience I am going to be super excited to repeat anytime soon. Here's hoping for a little less drive time and much better dining tomorrow. P.S. — Did I mention that wine is only available for purchase at liquor stores? Yeah, Utah hates me.

A note to readers:
I am gluten sensitive/intolerant so I am not overly concerned with possible cross contamination. If you have severe reactions, I recommend taking additional precautions. |
