An adrenaline rush and avoiding the crowds in Zion National Park
There are some truly breathtaking landscapes on this planet and I want to make sure The Boy experiences as much as possible during his brief childhood. We started the day with an extreme Jeep tour over red rock near Sand Hollow State Park. So. Much. Fun. Zion Country Off-Road Tours is a great choice if you want to experience more than a dirt-road tour. Think rock crawling and amazing vistas. After the a.m. adrenaline rush and a ND (not delicious) meal at JB's in Hurricane, we decided to skip the overcrowded Visitor Center and popular trails in Zion National Park and instead drove the Caramel Highway through the park then looped north to Cedar Breaks National Monument and finally back south to our stopping spot in St. George, UT.
Springdale is basically the gateway to Zion and it is jam packed with cars and tourists. If you are lucky enough to find parking anywhere in Springdale, I recommend stopping for a chocolate muffin and a iced tea or coffee at Deep Creek Coffee. It's a laid back sort of place with hot and cold beverages and a tempting baked goods case that included three gluten-free options. My chocolate muffin had a fantastic coconut smell and was moist and delicious. Other pluses were the lack crowds, friendly staff and clean accessible bathroom. Now that we are miles away from Zion and Deep Creek Coffee, I am wishing I had bought a couple more muffins for the road.
I have to say, the first three days of this adventure have been riddled with lackluster meals and spotty service. Plenty of room for improvement. Ever onward. Fond Zion Park memories - gluten-free baked goods
